American Red Cross Central North Carolina Chapter

Get Prepared

FamilyFrom a single-family house fire to a major disaster such as Hurricane Floyd, the Red Cross Disaster Services program provides relief for residents of Durham and Granville counties. Through its volunteers in the community, the Red Cross touches the lives of hundreds of people a year in the Durham and Granville communities. The Central North Carolina Chapter also provides crucial services to members of the armed forces and their families through the Armed Forces Emergency Services (AFES) program 24 hours a day in the event of a military emergency. None of these services would be possible without the dedication of our Emergency Services volunteers. They fill a wide variety of roles and provide countless services to the community.

Being prepared for emergencies is crucial at home, school, work and in your community.

Disaster can strike quickly and without warning. It can force you to evacuate your neighborhood, workplace or school or can confine you to your home. What would you do if basic services – water, gas, electricity or telephones – were cut off?

Local officials and relief workers will be on the scene after a disaster, but they cannot reach everyone right away. The best way to make you and your family safer is to be prepared before disaster strikes. We encourage you to:
