The Clara Barton Society
| She was “the light of a great soul that had come to them out of darkness.” ―Quote from a young man in response to Clara Barton’s relief efforts during a typhoid epidemic in Pennsylvania, 1903 |

No name better symbolizes the spirit of caring and of active volunteerism than Clara Barton, founder of the American Red Cross.
The human devastation of the Civil War both horrifed her and ignited her determination to make a lasting difference. Whether tending the wounded on the battlefield or making impassioned pleas to Lincoln’s White House on behalf of those in urgent need, Clara Barton moved the nation.
She brought the fledgling International Red Cross Movement to America, with its dedication to easing human suffering and its reliance on voluntary support.
The Clara Barton Society honors Americans who share her caring and commitment through their generous support of the American Red Cross.
From 1881 to today, Clara Barton’s vision of helping those in need continues to live strong in the American Red Cross.
To honor her legacy in serving those in need, the Clara Barton Society has been established.
By becoming a member you can continue to help her vision live on.
